History

European settlers arrived in Cairnlea in the late 19th century. It was used as grasslands in the early 20th century. In the inter-war years it was an explosives testing site. Housing was built in the 1990s after the site closed. Cairnlea is a young and environmentally friendly suburb. Across the area storm water is recycled into the lakes.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Cairnlea has a local community centre with events all year round. Cairnlea has its own football club, though the more eclectic choice in town is Victorian Croquet. Much of the area is protected land, some of which is kept aside to preserve the endangered Striped Legless Lizard and Plains Rice-Flower.
