The small town of Broadford is the headquarters of the Shire of Mitchell local government area. It is situated on the banks of the Sunday Creek which flows into the Goulburn River. It is also close to the Hume Freeway and has a population of over 3,000 people.

History

The area first became a bustling township in the mid-1800s after gold was discovered in Sunday Creek. The town’s Post Office was opened in 1852 on the 1st of July and the railway came into the area sometime in 1872.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The main industry in Broadford is a paper mill and the area is also well served by schools. There are 2 kindergartens, a primary school, and a secondary college in the town. The Victoria State Motorcycle Complex regularly holds national events on its road and off road circuits along with amateur track days.

The town has an Australian Rules Football Team, a netball team, and 3 junior cricket teams. There are also 4 senior teams at the cricket club and the area has a Golf Club too.
