Braybrook is a suburb located 9km west of Melbourne. Its local government area is the City of Maribyrnong, and the suburb has a population of over 8,000.

History

Braybrook Post Office opened in 1860. It’s bounded in the south by the Sunbury railway line and Sunshine Road. Duke Street lies to the west, Maribyrnong River covers the northern border, and Ashley Street completes the eastern side.

Mostly an industrial suburb, today it’s starting to resemble a bedroom community. This is due to a recent expansion of the western suburbs of Melbourne which are less populated that the eastern suburbs.

Braybrook was ranked the 95th out of 315 most liveable suburbs in Melbourne in the “2011 Liveability Stakes” by The Age and The Melbourne Magazine.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Braybrook Community Centre offers children’s facilities, crafts, ESL courses, and computer facilities. Its rooms are for hire and there’s a garden that features sculptures and strawbale/mudbrick buildings.
