Box Hill North is a suburb in Melbourne, 14km east of the CBD. In the local government area of the City of Whitehorse, it has a population of around 11,000.

History

Although established as a post town in 1861, Box Hill saw most of its development as a suburban area after WW2.

The earliest permanent European presence was the colonist Arundel Wrighte’s pastoral lease in 1938. The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built in 1858 and is the oldest building in the area.

Much of the area was covered with orchards until the 1950s. In 1955, Box Hill North Post Office opened as the suburb began to grow.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb has many roadside strip shopping centres including Kerrimuir Shopping Centre. It has two public primary schools and one secondary school and is also home to many parks including Elgar Park, Frank Sedgman Reserve, and Halligan Park.
