Beaconsfield is a suburb of Melbourne, 46km south-east of the central business district. It has a population of 6,400 people.

History

Beaconsfield takes its name from Benjamin Disraeli (Lord Beaconsfield). The suburb’s Post Office first opened in 1878 and still exists as the “Corner Post Café”. The Railway Station Post Office opened in 1883 and the suburb was renamed Beaconsfield Upper in 1891, the railway station was renamed Beaconsfield in 1902.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Beaconsfield has a small shopping centre, schools, and the St Francis Xavier College. The local government area is the Shire of Cardinia and the community has an Australian Rules football club. The club competes in the Casey Cardinia Football Netball League where several football stars including Chris Newman and Tim Barker played in the past.
