Baw Baw is a local government area in Victoria, in the eastern part of the state. It includes the towns of Drouin, Longwarry, Neerim South, Trafalgar, Warragul and Yarragon. Its current population is 42,864.

History

The area was gazetted in December 1994. It was formed to combine several other council areas including Buln Buln, Narracan and Warragul.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The southern half of the area has rolling hills, which is used for dairy farming and other types of farming. The northern half is part of the Great Dividing Range. Tourism in the area is high, due to its closeness and easy access from Melbourne. Tourists come to visit the area’s rural scenery and natural beauty, as well as for its gourmet foods and wines.

The historic gold mining town of Walhalla is located in the northeast of the area.
