Ashwood is a residential suburb in Melbourne, Victoria. It’s located 14km south-east from Melbourne’s central business district and has a population of 6,061.

History

Development began in the area in the 1950’s. To the west of Warrigal Road was the housing area, with market gardens and poultry farms to the east.

The area was named after the suburbs of Burwood and Ashburton because it sits between the two.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Ashwood Shopping Centre is a strip of shopping centres located on Warrigal Road. It includes a Woolworths supermarket. A smaller shopping centre is located at the corner of High Street Road and Cleveland Road.

Ashwood Reserve on Gardiners Creek includes hockey facilities and grounds for the local rugby club. A bicycle trail also runs through the reserve. Electra Reserve has a dog club, croquet facilities and a senior citizens hall.
