Alfredton is a residential suburb in Ballarat, Victoria. It’s located 4km west of Ballarat’s central business district. It has a population of 7,195, making it the fourth most populated area in the Ballarat region.

History

The area was originally part of the Cardigan area and was known by that name. Its name was changed to honour Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh following the royal visit to Ballarat in 1867.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is a mixture of different urban styles. A small section of the original town was built according to the grid plan. The rest of the town has looped streets and cul-de-sacs. The area is continuing to grow with new developments happening in the north and south. Large housing estates include The Chase and Insignia.

The town has some of Ballarat’s best-known landmarks, including the Arch of Victory and the Avenue of Honour.
