Airport West is a suburb of Melbourne in the City of Moonee Valley. It’s located 11km north-west of Melbourne’s central business district, and has a population of more than 7,000.

History

A relatively new suburb, Airport West’s post office opened for business in 1982. Airport West was named due to its proximity to Essendon Airport, which was the first general airport in Melbourne. The suburb is bordered by the Calder Freeway, the Tullamarine Freeway and Western Ring Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Undoubtedly, Airport West’s major draw is Westfield Airport West. This enormous shopping complex houses over 160 stores, such as Aldi, Woolworths, Kmart, Target, Coles and Harris Scarfe. It also features a bank, cinema, pharmacy, and many smaller outlets, as well as a bustling food court. In terms of sports, Airport West Football Club plays in the local Essendon District Football League. Four schools are based in this suburb too, including the Bravissimi Italian Language School.
