Based in Tasmania, Youngtown is a suburb in Launceston’s south. It falls under the state electorate of Bass. Youngtown neighbours Prospect Vale, Norwood, and St Leonards. It lies 6.1km from Launceston’s city centre. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 4,000 people.

History

Little is known of Youngstown’s history. Franklin Village was established in the area in 1837. Since then, many of its buildings have gone. Two buildings still remain. These are Franklin House, which was built in 1838, and St James Anglican Church, which was built in 1845.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

This large suburb has many facilities. Hobart Rd is the main road that runs through the middle of the suburb. It features many businesses. These include The Salvation Army and Kings Furniture. Glenara Lakes Lifestyle Village offers care to the elderly.
