With a population of over 14,000, Ulverstone is town in Tasmania. Ulverstone is on the northern coast and sits on the mouth of the Leven River. The town is very beautiful and popular among retirees.

History

Europeans settled in Ulverstone in 1848. Originally, the land was used for farming. In the 1850s, timber workman began working in the area. In 1861, Governor Fox-Young declared that Ulverstone was a town. The name Ulverstone comes from the town in England, which also sits on the Leven River.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Since the 1990s, Ulverstone has been redeveloped to encourage more tourism. In 2010, Ulverstone opened the Schweppes Arena – a new basketball stadium. In 2011, a new bridge replaced the old Leven Bridge. In addition to these new pieces of architecture, Ulverstone has four primary schools, one public high school, and several private schools.
