Trevallyn is a Launceston suburb located 1km from the central business district. It’s part of the City of Launceston local government area, and has a population of more than 4,600.

History

Dating back to the 1890s, Trevallyn has the unusual distinction of once being spelled in reverse. Various records with the name “Nyllavert” have been found, and the suburb’s old post office used to carry this name in the 1930s. Trevallyn was also the home of author and co-founder of the Australian Communist Party, Katharine Susannah Prichard.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bordered by the River Tamar and the South Esk River, Trevallyn is an attractive place to call home. Cataract Gorge and the Trevallyn Dam are found here, as well as a selection of parks. These include Trevallyn Reserve, Tailrace Park, and Trevallyn Nature Recreation Area. The suburb also has a tennis club and a primary school, as well as shops and restaurants.
