History

Rokeby began as Rokeby House, a farmhouse built in 1840. The suburb has the historic St Matthews Church, with traditional British features such as a picket-fence ground. The Church’s graveyard contains the tomb of Tasmania’s first Church of England chaplain.

Make sure to visit Old Rokeby Historic Trail. The trail has 15 stops that cover the history of the area. The Rokeby Post Office, once called the Clarence Plains Post Office, is one of the area’s oldest buildings, having been built in 1850.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb has a famous skate park, which was built in 2001. The skate park is home to many national and international competitions.

Given its location on the Derwent River, Rokeby is a great place for walks and picnics.
