History

Very little is known about the history of Risdon Vale. However, we do know that the Risdon Vale Post Office opened in 1960. In 1981, the Risdon Vale Volunteer Fire Brigade was formed. In 1982, Risdon Vale opened a fire station on Sugarloaf Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

These days, Risdon Vale is the site of Risdon Prison and Risdon Women’s Prison. This is Tasmania’s only maximum security prison.

The area is prone to bushfires. This is because the suburb is bounded by bush and scrub that tends to get very dry in summer.
