Old Beach is a middle-class suburb in southeastern Tasmania. It is about 17km north of Hobart. It is home to about 3,169 people. Old Beach belongs to the Brighton local government area. About 87% of residents were born in Australia.

History

Not much is known about the early years of Old Beach. It is known that the township of Old Beach was established in the 1800s. The Old Beach Post Office started operating in late 1866, but closed in 1975. Baskerville Raceway, the country’s longest continually-running circuit, opened in February 1958. It still operates today and plays host to major motorcycle and car-racing events.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Enjoy the beautiful bay views by taking the Old Beach foreshore walk at Jetty Rd. You will find large coastal salt marshes and birdlife.

A retirement village, St Ann’s Living, was opened in the area in 2015.
