Howrah belongs to the greater Hobart area and is a suburb of the City of Clarence. It is located on the Tasmanian south-east coast and is home to just over 8,000 people.

History

Howrah got its name from Howrah House, which dates back to the 1830s. An Indian Army officer built the property on Clarence Plains. He, in turn, took the name from a place near Calcutta.

Today Howrah is a residential area that offers great views of the Derwent River as well as Hobart city centre. It also has several schools, making it a convenient place for families to live in.

It is home to various parks such as Wentworth Park. The park is one of the city’s prime recreational spots. Here you can play football and field hockey. For all your shopping needs, head to the Shoreline Shopping Centre, which is the suburb’s largest shopping centre.
