Geilston Bay is a small town in Hobart, with a population of 3183. It is a suburb with rich nature with houses built next to the bushland.

History

This suburb is well known for its Aboriginal history. An Aboriginal Site is just a short walk from Shag Bay.

Colonel Andrew Geils who was Commander of Hobarts Settlement lived in Geilston Bay, which is how the area got its name. Geilston Bay once had a large apple orchard and also a golf course.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Locals and especially boat owners moor their yachts to this bay. The Geilston Bay Boat Club is famous for hosting races and events at their function room and club.

There is a shopping strip with takeaway food, general store, a butcher, florist and a few restaurants in this town.
