Based in the south of Tasmania, Dover is a small town. It sits south of the Huon Valley and south-west of Hobart. According to the 2006 census, Dover has a population of 958 people.

History

The Nuenonne tribe are the original inhabitants of Dover and lived there for at least 30,000 years.

Between the years of 1844 and 1848, Dover acted as a convict probation station. After this, the town became a port and shipped Huon pine. As such, by 1850, Dover saw a large number of saw mills.

In 1856, Dover opened the Port Esperance Post Office. The next year, Dover achieved township status.

Dover is a good base for visitors wanting to explore south-west Tasmania. It is a beautiful little village, and travellers love the beaches and fresh seafood. The Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs are nearby and have proven popular with tourists.
