Deloraine is a small Tasmanian town perched on the Meander River. It’s 50km west of Launceston, and has a population of over 2,700.

History

Dating back to the 1830s, the town of Deloraine is a haven of tourism and agriculture. It’s named for the heroic William Deloraine, a character in Sir Walter Scott’s The Lay of the Last Minstrel. In 1997, Deloraine won the Australian Community of the Year award.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Deloraine sits at the base of the Great Western Tiers. This makes it a great HQ for exploring the region’s magnificent scenery. Many of the town’s Georgian and Victorian buildings still stand, and plenty of charming cafes are ready to serve up lunch. For nature lovers, Mole Creek Karst National Park and Trowunna Wildlife Park are mandatory stops. Deloraine also hosts the Tasmanian Craft Fair, which welcomes 34,000 visitors every year.
