Based in Tasmania’s north-east, Beauty Point is a town that sits by the Tamar River. Part of the West Tamar Council, it is 45km north of Launceston. Beauty Point has a population of over 1,100 people.
History
This riverside township was the Tamar River’s first deep water port. Its intention was to service the gold mining town of Beaconsfield. Once the gold rush ended, Beauty Point focussed on the export of apples.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
These days, Beauty Point is popular with mariners and water enthusiasts. The local Australian Maritime College offers courses in seamanship and fisheries. Seahorse World is one of the town’s main features. It’s a working seahorse farm, dedicated to the breeding and protection of seahorses.
