History

Development on the land where the suburb is built started in September 1970 and West Lakes was officially opened in March of 1977 by the Deputy Premier and Minister of Marine. The Post Office was opened on August the 27th 1975.

The 51,240 seat Football Park is in West Lakes and it is the home of the SANFL. The Westfield West Lakes Shopping Centre contains over 260 stores including Woolworths. The 2 storey, 71,000 sqm shopping mall also houses the City of Charles Sturt Community Centre and library.
