Wallaroo is 160km away from Adelaide in South Australia. It has a Mediterranean climate and a population of 3,053. It is a strategically placed port town on the Yorke Peninsula and is known as “Little Cornwall” to the locals.

History

The name ‘Wallaroo’ comes from the indigenous Narungga people who first lived in the area. The first European settlers arrived in 1851, and only a few years later it was declared a town. It was known for copper and remains an important port town, now better known for the large amounts of grain shipped every day.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Every other year the Kernewek Lowender Festival takes place for 3 days in Wallaroo. The recent urban rebranding has drawn tourism to the beachfront. Visitors normally come to learn more about Wallaroo’s copper mining history or relax by the marina.
