Established in 1846, Robe is a fishing port and town in South Australia. It lies on the Limestone Coast and has a population of over 1,200 people.

History

Robe takes its name from Major Frederick Robe, the fourth Governor of South Australia.

In 1844, Governor Grey led and exploration trip that briefly stopped in Robe. In 1845, Captain Underwood was surveying the coast. As a result, European settlement grew in Robe. The following year, Robe was officially established as a town.

Once Robe was named a port in 1847, it soon became South Australia’s second-busiest international port in the next decade.
