History

In the 1830s, settlers arrived in the area of Richmond. They used the land for farming. It wasn’t until the late 19th century and early 20th century when some homes and businesses were built.

Richmond was named after the first farm in the area. It was built in 1839 and owned by a man called Charles Gooch.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is mainly a housing town but there are some small shopping areas along South Road and Richmond Road. Richmond is also home to Richmond Oval and the Westside Bikeway.

It is close to the city and beach, and has its own library. Richmond is serviced by many bus routes.
