Plympton is a suburb of Adelaide in South Australia with a population of over 3,000. It is close to the beach and situated around 15 minutes from the city.

History

The small suburb of Plympton was given its name by a man called Henry Mooringe Boswana. He named the area after his home town in Devon, England. It was in 1944 when it was accepted as the official name of the suburb.

In 1896, a track for coursing was built by the Plympton Coursing Company. The first post office in the area opened in 1856.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Plympton has some good quality schools and child care centres. There are lots of parks, restaurants and shops, as well as bike tracks. The Highway Hotel is a local pub that once got voted the best in SA.

The area offers tram and bus services to the city, Golden Grove, Marion and Glenelg. It’s a really peaceful suburb with the beach on the doorstep.
