The Adelaide suburb of Para Hills is located close to the local light aircraft airport. The area has two shopping centres along with many parks and several schools. Most of the area is within the City Of Salisbury and the remainder falls within the City of Tree Gully. The area has a population of 7,722 people.

History

The name Para is taken from Kaurna which means a stream of flowing water. The first settlers were the Goodall family and they established a farm in 1850. The owner Andrew Melville Goodall extended the property in 1853 and named it Para Hills Farm. This property once stood at what is now the corner of St Clair Avenue and Goodall Road. The Post Office in the suburb opened on the 28th of June 1961.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb benefits from a regular bus service that covers several routes. There are a library, police station and several shops. In 1982 the area was featured using an expandable house that allowed for the addition of rooms in up to four stages. This was a part of the Housing Trust of South Australia’s demonstration village.
