History

The city of Murray Bridge was once known as Mobilong. It was later called Edwards Crossings. The area was renamed as Murray Bridge in 1924 and takes its name from the road and railway crossing over the Murray River.

Murray Bridge was lived-in by the Ngarrindjeri people. The first European explorer in the area was a man called Charles Sturt. In 1924, the Murray Bridge rowing team represented Australia at the Paris Olympics.
