Morphett Vale is a southern suburb in Adelaide, located in the City of Onkaparinga. The largest suburb in South Australia, it has a population of more than 23,000 people.

History

Morphett Vale was named after Jon Morphett, a South Australian pioneer, landowner, and politician.

It was the first major suburb south of Adelaide. In 1840, the town of Dublin was subdivided which lead to the development of Morphett Vale. The town had a large number of residences with vineyards attached by 1866. Morphett Vale District Council formed in 1852, and later merged with Noarlunga in 1932.

Large-scale land subdivision in the 1960s changed the area from a rural region to a metropolitan suburb.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Morphett Vale is home to approximately 1,000 businesses. The Morphett Vale Country Fire Service is entirely volunteer run and has a membership of around 50 people.

There’s also a large number of schools and sporting clubs and grounds with its boundaries.
