Magill is a suburb of Adelaide in South Australia. It is in the city of Burnside and Campbelltown and has a population of over 8,200.
History
The suburb was first established as the Makgill Estate. The estate was owned by two Scottish men called Robert Cook and William Ferguson. They met each other when sailing out from Portsmouth on the HMS Buffalo.
It was later named after Cook’s friend, David Makgill. Ferguson built the estate in 1838 and was charged with farming it. Not long after he started farming, the two men became short of cash and Magill went on to be the first foothill village to be subdivided.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Magill has a popular shopping centre and one of Penfolds’ wineries. You can also visit the historic Murray Park Estate when in the area.
There are three schools in Magill including Magill Primary School, Norwood Morialta High School and the University of South Australia.
