Kadina is the largest town on the Yorke Peninsula of Southern Australia. With a population of over 4,470, Kadina lies 144 kilometres north north-west of Adelaide. It is one of three towns known collectively as the Copper Triangle.

History

Kadina, meaning Lizard Plain, was founded in 1861. The area was first used to house miners after the discovery of copper at Wallaroo Mines. By 1875, the population had exploded to 20,000 with many experienced miners coming from Cornwall, England. Copper mining was the mainstay of Kadina’s economy until the mines closed in 1923.

Today Kadina is a thriving commercial centre with a number of heritage-listed sites. The Kadina Town Walk which starts from the Town Hall is the best way to soak up the town’s history. The beautiful shady parkland of Victoria Square is perfect for families. It features a playground, bbq facilities and an old rotunda.
