History

The suburb takes its name from Dry Creek Drain. This is a seasonal stream that flows from Yatala Vale to the Barker Inlet.

Dry Creek is the site of the former W.H. Burford & Son soap works. The area was also used for the smelting of ore. Dry Creek’s former explosives depot has buildings that are now heritage-listed.
