Campbelltown is a suburb which is home to a population of just over 7,000 people. It is located around 9km from Adelaide.

History

Campbelltown is named after an early Scottish settler called Charles James Fox Campbell who purchased land next to the River Torrens in 1842. Here, he built a home called Lochend, named after his family home in Scotland. Soon after, in 1849, he subdivided his land to create 40 blocks for gardening which he named Campbelltown.

Campbell’s legacy is evident to this day with his home, Lochend, being restored and reopened in 2004. There is also a school in nearby Paradise which is named in his honour.

Campbelltown is a quiet town with many parks, including several located around the River Torrens and its surrounding creeks. Elsewhere, there are plenty of playground and sports courts as well as a newly built leisure centre.
