History

Settlement in the area began in the 1850’s, when farming began on the Aldinga Plains. A local farmer, Lewis Fidge, designed the town’s layout. The town grew quickly as hotels, churches and shops were built. In the 1870’s, the population dropped as the farms struggled and better land was available further north. However, the town survived because of its location on the Main South Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The area has a small local shopping centre called Aldinga Central. It houses supermarkets, hairdressers and specialty stores. There are three schools within the area. These include Galilee Catholic School, Aldinga Beach B-7 School and Southern Vales Christian College.
