Windsor is a suburb of Brisbane in Queensland. Beautiful old Queenslanders dot the streets of Windsor. The largely residential suburb has 6,389 residents.

History

Development in Windsor took off with the opening of the Bowen Bridge. In 1864, settlers built a school. Local politicians formed the Windsor Shire in 1887.

Tramways ran through the suburb until 1968.

The suburb borders Breakfast Creek. The 1974 floods caused damage in the suburb.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Windsor has plenty of green space. There are many sporting facilities in the suburb. These include a Bowls Club, Croquet Club and playing fields. Downey Park is considered the home of women’s sport. It is home to the Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association and Saints Softball Club. There is also a Table Tennis Centre.

Retail activity centres on Lutwyche and Newmarket Roads. It is a destination for home furnishings and improvement retailers. The Brisbane Institute of Art is found in the suburb.
