The suburb of Wilsonton is five kilometres outside of Toowoomba’s CBD. The town has a population of 6,000 people.

History

Wilsonton was named after James T. Wilson. He was a businessman and champion of the Toowoomba Agricultural Society in the 1870s.

The town is in the Darling Downs area of Queensland. It is recognised for its farming and the town is surrounded by crops and dairy farms.

The town was officially gazetted in the 1980s. It was then amended in 2006 when a separate suburb, Wilsonton Heights, went through the gazettal process. Wilsonton Heights has a population of 2,800 people.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wilsonton is home to Toowoomba Airport, along with an industrial centre for several businesses.
There are three primary schools in the town, one which has been running since the 1890s.
