White Rock is a Cairns suburb found 10km south of the central business district. It’s situated on the city’s outskirts, and forms part of the Cairns Region local government area. White Rock has a population of more than 4,500.

History

Taking its name from the nearby White Rock Peak, White Rock began proper development in the 1960s. A housing estate was completed in the 1970s, forming the basis of the suburb. White Rock grew steadily in size and population, and had two schools by 1988. In 2001, a shopping centre opened in Barnard Drive.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

White Rock is a quiet, residential suburb, although it’s close enough to the city centre to make it popular with a range of inhabitants. The Cairns Golf Club borders to the north, and a retirement home can be found at the west of White Rock. The suburb is known for its many parks, including Reys Park, Tiffany Street Reserve, and Pittsburg Street Park.
