Sitting about 22km from Brisbane, Wellington Point is a suburb of Redland City. The suburb takes its name from a local landmark that extends into Moreton Bay. It is mainly residential and has a population of 11,787.

History

Before white settlers arrived in the 19th century, the area was home to the Quandamooka people. Surveyors James Warner and Robert Dixon named the area after the Duke of Wellington in 1842. The first permanent settlers arrived in the 1860s.

The population of the point was 260 by 1893. Wellington Point first got electricity in 1931. American forces used the area for bombing and shooting practice during World War II.

The suburb has the atmosphere of a seaside village. Water sports are popular in the local area. Local landmarks include King Island, Redlands Sporting Club, Sovereign Waters, and Wellington Clock Tower. Fernbourne House and Whepstead Manor also offer historical interest.
