With a population of 6,160, Waterford West is a suburb of Logan City. The area is mainly residential and sits just to the west of the Logan River.

History

The first European settlers arrived in Waterford West in the 1860s. Starting in 1863, a ferry across the Logan River from Waterford allowed people to cross easily. In 1876, a bridge was built across the river, making travel even easier.

The Morning Star Hotel opened in Waterford West in 1871. It is now called The Club Hotel. Another historic landmark was the Tygum sugar mill. The suburb only became a genuinely residential area in the 1970s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Waterford Plaza is Waterford West’s premier shopping centre. It is conveniently located near to the bridge across the river to Waterford. The suburb also has some retail sites. The Tygum Lagoon sits beside the centre of the suburb.
