Varsity Lakes is a suburb that is located on the Gold Coast. It has a population of 14,366.

History

The name has changed several times over the years. In 1873 it was named Merrimac Estate by a man called Thomas Blacket Stephens who bought land in the area. In 1981 the name was changed to Stephens in memory of him. In 1999 a residential development project called Varsity Lakes began on the land between Stephens and Robina. In 2002 Stephens and this new development merged together to form one suburb called Varsity Lakes.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

One of the main shopping areas in Varsity Lakes is Market Square. It has a number of retail outlets as well as restaurants, gyms and banks. Christine Corner also has a selection of shops and places to eat. Lismore has a skate park that was modernised in 2008.
