History

Established on the Kedron Brook, Upper Kedron was a base for logging and farming in the 19th century. From the 1960s onwards, the suburb began to be urbanised. In 2014, Cedar Woods Properties purchased a big chunk of Upper Kedron. They set in motion a major development project, aiming to build over 1,300 new houses in the area. The project is a source of great controversy. Many locals object to its effects on the environment and the area’s heritage. The level of opposition has left the project’s future in doubt, and the issue remains ongoing.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Upper Kedron is bordered by the Brisbane Forest Park in Enoggera Reservoir. A lush, green suburb, Upper Kedron contains many parks. These include Ferndale Palace Park, Upper Kedron Recreation Reserve, Pickering Place Park, and Selkirk Crescent Park. As a quiet, residential area, shopping and dining options within the suburb are limited.
