Toowoomba is the 16th largest city in Australia and it is known as the “Garden City”. It is a prominent Cathedral City and the centre for a range of cultural events. The city has a population of over 114,000 people.

History

The area’s history dates back to around 1816 when the botanist and explorer Allan Cunningham arrived from Brazil. He discovered 16,000 square kilometres of rich farming land. This area was to later become known as the Darling Downs.
The area grew as a township until it was proclaimed a municipality in 1860 on November 24th.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The city is a mix of modern and heritage properties and there are many places of historic interest around the city. The ADF is based in the city and it also provides housing and other facilities for its personnel working at the Oakley Aviation Centre.

There are many schools including primaries, secondary schools, and other learning institutions. There are many events staged around the area during the year including the Carnival of Flowers.
