History

Tingalpa is technically the second township to bear this name. ‘Old’ Tingalpa was planned for an area west of Tingalpa Creek, but it never came to be built. Despite this, Old Tingalpa wasn’t formally abolished until 1943. ‘New’ Tingalpa, the current town, established itself in the 1860s with a post office and Anglican Church. In 1925, Tingalpa became part of the City of Brisbane.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Tingalpa is a largely residential suburb. Its housing is a mix of modern estates and older post-war homes. Shopping centres on Wynnum Road and Belmont Road cater to most local needs. Tingalpa features extensive bushlands, with Meadowlands Park and Minnippi Park both very short distances away. The area is great for cycling, and Christ Church is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.
