History

Taringa is an Aboriginal portmanteau word. It is derived from ‘nga,’ which means ‘made from’ and ‘tarau,’ which means ‘stones.’ ‘Place of stones’ is what they mean when placed together. In the 19th century European settlers arrived, bringing farming to the area.

Life in Taringa revolves around the hive of activity that is Moggill Road. Most of the area is housing but Moggill Road has restaurants and shops. Taringa has convenient transport links to the centre of Brisbane, and is only a short distance from Mt Coot-tha. There are two heritage-listed sites. They include the Fulton Residence and the Pilot Officer Geoffrey Lloyd Wells Memorial Seat.
