Sheldon is located 23km south-east of Brisbane’s Central Business District. It is a suburb of Redland City. It is home to 1,690 people.

History

The name Sheldon is thought to come from the same-titled village in Devon, United Kingdom. This word comes from an Old English word that means “steep-sided hill and wooden valley”.

The suburb of Sheldon was only formed in 1980. It constitutes the southern part of Capalaba and the northern part of Mt Cotton.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Sheldon is a catchment area for the Leslie Harrison Dam, a dam that provides much of the water supply of the Redlands. Because of this, the area is dense with bush and contains much natural beauty.

Sheldon is home to a substantial koala population. Karreman Quarries, which provide material for building roads, is also located here.
