Seventeen Mile Rocks is a Brisbane suburb found 11km south-west of the central business district. It sits on the Brisbane River, and falls under the City of Brisbane local government area. Seventeen Mile Rocks has a population of more than 3,000.

History

The land that became Seventeen Mile Rocks was bought by the Sinnamon family in the 1860s. They established their first farm in 1869, followed by a church in 1880. The area is named for a group of rocks that signified a 17-mile distance from the mouth of the Brisbane River. Seventeen Mile Rock remained a farming and industrial suburb until the 1970s, when lots of new housing estates started popping up.

Lifestyle & Entertainment

Rocks Riverside Park is found at the north of Seventeen Mile Rocks, bordering on the river. It’s one of the biggest riverside parks in the Brisbane region, and draws a lot of visitors to the suburb. Various other parks are also dotted about. Several industrial businesses are still active in Seventeen Mile Rocks, including Acrylic Sheets and Hard Metal Industries.
