History

Redcliffe was initially home to the Ningy Ningy people. Matthew Flinders landed on 17 July, 1799. Explorer John Oxley picked ‘Red Cliff Point’ as a good spot for the new colony. It was settled in 1824, but abandoned after one year.

By the 1880s, Redcliffe was a busy resort town. The Hornibrook Bridge was built in 1935. This paved the way for suburban development.

Redcliffe’s claim to fame is being the home of the Bee Gees. The group gave their first public performance at the Speedway.

Entertainment and lifestyle

Redcliffe is a beautiful part of Brisbane. Suttons Beach, Redcliffe Jetty, the Botanic Gardens, and Showgrounds are all attractions.

Redcliffe Parade offers a host of restaurants and eateries. The suburb has three schools.
