Pittsworth is a town and locality in the Toowoomba region of Queensland. The town’s population is around 5,500.

History

Pittsworth owes its existence to the explorer and botanist Allan Cunningham, who settled the area in the early 1800s. The town grew up around a hotel which attracted rural workers and local landholders. The town was originally known as Beauaraba. The name was changed in 1915 in honour of a local family who took up land at Goombungee in 1854. The town was established after years of pastoral settlement. It grew to offer services for the surrounding farming industries.

Tourists can visit many heritage-listed sites in Pittsworth. These include the former Pittsworth Shire Council Chambers and Shire Hall. The town has a museum comprised of some of the town’s old buildings and historical memorabilia.
