Parkinson is a residential suburb of Brisbane 12km south of the central business district. It’s the southernmost area covered by the Brisbane City Council, and has a population of more than 9,500.

History

Founded in 1972, Parkinson was named after the railway engineer Henry Parkinson. It didn’t come into its own until the 1990s, when serious residential settlement began taking place. The Logan Motorway divides Parkinson down the middle, separating it into two clear halves. The northern half is mostly housing, and it’s where the majority of the population live. The south is bushland, much of which has been earmarked for industrial development.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The very north of Parkinson features a small commercial area. This is where the Calamvale Marketplace and Parkinson Plaza Shopping Centre sit. The Plaza contains 13 shops, one of which is a supermarket. The suburb also borders on Logan City, where many more shops can be found. A small section of the Southlink Business Park lies in Parkland’s south-eastern corner.
