History

Before Palmwoods was known by the name it goes by today, it was called Merriman Flats. That’s what early European settlers named the area when they arrived over 130 years ago in 1881.
In 1902, Palmwoods post office was opened.

Only a short drive away from Palmwoods is The Big Pineapple. This family-friendly tourist attraction is an important part of the area’s heritage. A giant pineapple that opened back in 1971 stands at a whopping 16 metres high. The Big Pineapple also has a fun train ride and hosts an award-winning music festival.
