History

Named after John Oxley, an early explorer, Oxley’s roots were laid in 1851. The suburb grew well, and Oxley had two hotels, a school and a police station by 1876. Connections to the Brisbane railway and the Ipswich road helped the suburb develop, and it once covered a much larger area than it does today. In the 1960s, The Oxley Progress Association were instrumental in the passing of the Queensland Clear Air Act. 2003 saw Oxley get a welcomed makeover through the Suburban Community Improvement Programme.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Oxley features several Heritage-listed sites, including the 1920 Oxley War Memorial. The suburb has a good retail hub and plenty of cafes, as well as numerous parks. Oxley enjoys excellent transport links to the rest of Brisbane.
